Emmanuel is the 4th child of eight born to Johnny and Brenda Butler. He grew up a “PK” under the dynamic ministry his father Evangelist Johhny R. Butler. The foundation of his sound is influenced strongly by the church with musical influences like Fred Hammond, Kim Burrell, Men of Standard and John P. Kee. His smooth tone and skillful runs showcase his R&B influences, Mario, Brandy and Joe.​

Que Butler is the 3rd child of 4 born to the Late Jimmie Johnson and Pamela Johnson. She grew up idolizing her father who was a local singer and entertainer loved by many. Besides her father, some of her musical influences are Billy Holiday, Anita Baker and SWV. At the age of 13, Que joined a performace group Creative Impressions under the direction of Evelyn Ellis. She considers this group to be what saved her creatively after loosing her father to cancer.

When Emmanuel and Que briefly met in 1998, they had no idea their paths would eventually lead to a romantic relationship. Emmanuel was immediately smitten with his now wife Que Butler, while she just considered him the younger brother of a friend. 5 years later and a chance encounter, Emmanuel and Que connected, formed the duo EQue and the rest is history.
